WHY SUPPORT DEBATE AND THE LUND IV 2016?
Debating is an integral part of a thriving democracy. Crucial decisions in policy-making are all decided upon after a grueling debate to make sure that it will be as full-proof as possible. It can then be said that poor policies are by-product of poor quality debates. Furthermore, debating teaches essential skills: A trained debater is better at presenting ideas, more skilled in listening, more meticulous in analyzing discussions, and more precise in his or her choice of arguments among many other things. Debaters are determined and active students who often go on to have brilliant careers in the private sector, government, journalism or academia.
WHAT IS IN FOR SKÅNE?
Hosting the Lund IV helps in contributing to the intellectual life of Skåne, Sweden, billed not only as a sustainable region but also a host to cities of ideas such as Lund and Helsingborg. The size of the event brings debate into the consciousness of students not yet active in the debate circuit and encourages more people to think out of the box and engage in pressing issues of our time.
